What is up with Evite?
I know this is an age-old problem, but what is the deal with Evite? It’s the HP 12C of websites: never changing, never improving, never challenged. (Digression: I heard that the 12C is the oldest unchanged electronic device still in production–today’s model is essentially identical to the 1981 model. That’s PRE-Commodore 64.)
Has anyone ever used Evite without some sort of glitch? It’s painfully slow and incredibly buggy, but absolutely indispensable. Would-be rivals come (and go), but none succeed. If one of those Web 2.0 upstarts could import and sync with my current Evite account, I’d be there. I hate Evite so much.
Conglomerate IAC owns Evite, as well as a number of other household names (TicketMaster, LendingTree, Ask.com, Match.com, Citysearch). It clearly has the resources to invest in the product, so why doesn’t it? Even though IAC is profitable and (somewhat) growing, I actually think it’s a mis-management problem. If you look at their portfolio, every single brand is being threatened by a superior competitor or falling behind a rapidly-evolving marketscape.
What would Evite be like if it were owned by Google? I seriously think my quality of life would be noticeably higher.
Evite’s recent upgrade to the animate card opening up is ridiculous. It’s not pretty, and it slows everything down. Am I missing something? You also don’t see any of the RSVPs on the first page. You have to click elsewhere to see any of the names.
