So sad. Makes me sad enough to punch a WBC member in the nuts.
At the risk of over-analyzing something that should be altogether ignored, their use of Biblical references is nonsensical.
Philippians 2, quoted above, espouses Christ’s HUMILITY and (in my opinion) reminds us that Jesus died for everyone, not just one people group.
But this one is even stranger, and maybe someone can help me out: In Wikipedia, there’s a photo of a WBC placard that reads “God Hates Fags, ROM 9:13″. Huh? What does Esau have to do with homosexuality?
“As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.” (Romans 9:13, KJV)
Ha ha, I mean if you HAVE to call one of the brothers gay, I gotta go with Jacob, who was the effeminate one of the two. (Both brothers would later marry.) But seriously, what am I missing here?
a quick internet search suggests that the purpose of the verse is not to give a biblical basis to be anti-gay but to show that God does indeed hate, hence (in their minds) justifying the phrase “God Hates Fags”. the logic behind using that as the only verse on the placard is indeed loose at best, but i think we have plenty of other reasons to think that WBC members are a bit unhinged in the head.
calling them christian might be a little generous. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church
