Just tried to short these two stocks on Schwab. Here's the message I got:

This stock is either ineligible to be shorted or shares must be borrowed externally. Lenders of hard-to-borrow securities charge a fee in the form of interest. Clients who wish to short a minimum of $100,000 of a hard-to-borrow security and are willing to pay a fee to cover the cost of borrowing those shares, may contact Securities Lending at 800-355-2448 to determine the fee amount.

The evidence suggests that even after paying shorting fees, hard-to-short stocks are profitable to short. But I certainly don't want take on a $100,000 position!

Btw, the Schwab card (or any other Visa Signature Card) qualifies for a special buy-one-get-one offer at Fandango.

Funny, I've only seen the version of this ad with a midriff-baring female torso. Maybe it's because I truthfully told the NYT that I'm a male.

I don't know if it's this thread, but I just had the dream last night. I was supposed to give a talk, but I hadn't written it yet. And I had another talk that I was going to use to ad-lib from, but I couldn't find the file as the minutes ticked away toward showtime. I blame FiftyFive for starting this thread and messing some of us up.

Hahahaha. I'm glad I didn't become a good musician. But I do have variations where I have to deliver a message or sermon and I haven't written anything.

I hadn't had one of these nightmares in a while, but I had one last night -- perhaps prompted by this thread. Except it took on a twist that had never happened before. I dreamed that I was about to perform a piano concerto at Carnegie Hall in an hour, but I had never practiced the piece, and I had bought the wrong outfit, so that the jacket and pants were mismatched. In fact, the pants were a red and white checked flannel.

I still have these. The nightmares suck, but the thrill and relief of waking up and realizing that it was just a dream is simply awesome. I'm pretty screwed up.

I used to have exactly this dream at least once a year after college. My mom says she still gets them. Mine disappeared and were promptly replaced by an annual teaching nightmare once I took my current job.

There's too much in the news about this topic not to post something. The interesting bits in this interview with Harvey Pitt are a) legally, AIG should have not paid bonuses and waited for the courts to force them, b) all the talk about taxing the bonuses is basically government seizure:
